Unless...

Tonight Nathan and I went to see The Lorax. This has been a favorite book of mine for as long as I can remember. You see, back in middle school and high school I was a rabid environmentalist.* But I think the message of this book goes far beyond planting trees and recycling.

"UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." --Dr. Seuss

I suppose everyone has a "pet" cause. And everyone should. You, yes YOU, can absolutely bring about change in this world. I don't care if I agree with your cause. I care that something stirs your blood. I care that something gets you fired up. I think of myself as fairly politically active. I don't bring it on here because this is a family place (put the mouse back in the house**) and I assume most people are here to read about The Viking Offspring and not to hear me rant about abortion, taxes or the death penalty. Besides that, I'm not particularly interested in debate. I've been on both sides of most issues and I probably know the arguments better than most. I'm also relatively certain I'm not going to change your mind either. So why argue and bring about discourse when there's no need?

That being said, I am active politically and particularly in the pro-life movement. I need an outlet and a place to write about and express my opinions on that front. So I'll be kick-starting a political blog sometime in the next few days. When I do, I'll post a link for those who are curious and you'll see it pop up on the sidebar.

*I'm no longer a rabid environmentalist. I do believe you should be responsible with the environment, but I don't believe it's the government's job to mandate or regulate it.

**Name that TV show.

  1. You and I might have very different opinions on some issues. But I FULLY agree that everyone should be passionate about a cause. And that Dr. Seuss quote is one of my very favourites!

  2. I have to squeal for a little bit, in geeky fangirl fashion that you, the awesome Clay Baboons lady is commenting on my blog.

Okay, so anyway. It's one of my favorites too! Now, please tell me, did you have to captcha to get here? Because I never could find that dadgum setting in the settings...spot!
